Reservoir Monitoring Surveillance

Throwback to an oldie but a goodie! SEP had a great relationship working with United Utilities for over a decade encompassing over 129 Reservoirs.

Throwback to an oldie but a goodie! SEP had a great relationship working with United Utilities for over a decade encompassing over 129 Reservoirs. SEP had the brief to monitor the movement of the reservoir embankment, check for subsidence through precise leveling and monitor vertical and horizontal movement. To carry out the works our engineers would install a stainless steel monitoring pin encased in concrete into the embankment and capping the pin with a cast iron top trapping the pin so tightly that if there was any movement from the pin we could determine that it came from other factors.

Once the pin was sealed and stable we could then gain an accurate reading on its location using a Leica 1800 to gain its position. A DNA 03 digital level was then used to accurately pinpoint the level of the pin and the Leica 500 series for GPS if required. We would then Return every six months to read the GPS of the pin to carry out a comparison in results by measuring the horizontal and vertical movement of the pin to generate a survey report and provide and carry out any recommendations or remediation.

This was a fantastic project to work on for SEP as our engineers were surrounded by stunning scenery whilst working on each visit.
